The infallible Imams are the true interpreters of the Holy Book and Divine verses, therefore their precious words in clarifying the external reasons and the inner meanings of the verses of the Holy Quran are considered a precious inheritance for their followers. On the other hand, the Ahl al-Bayt did not provide a specific definition for the interpretation and how to clarify the verses. Based on this, in order to achieve a stable method in the interpretation of God's book, one should use their practical method. The main problem in this article is to discover, explain and analyze the functions of explanatory narrations with descriptive-analytical method. The findings of the research show that the Ahl al-Bayt have used various methods to clarify the Divine verses and explain the revelation teachings, which in this research are called "the functions of interpretive narrations" and are presented in 3 formats: lexical, propositional and classification network functions. The lexical functions of explanatory narrations are: phonological (repeated reading or publicly accepted); conceptual and intentional. In addition, the expression of descriptive and external meanings, internal and interpretive meanings, as well as external or internal examples, are among the propositional functions of interpretive narrations. The most important functions of the network of interpretive narrations are to express the commonalities and particularitis of the Holy Qur'an in comparison with other Divine books and to express the characteristics and virtues and properties of the surahs and to express the characteristics and types of verses.
