Medical knowledge, and consequently the medical profession, occupies a distinguished status in Islamic teachings. In the contemporary era, with the advancement of medical technologies, the expansion of commercialized healthcare systems, and the increasing complexity of physician–patient relationships, the need to redefine medical ethical principles has become more needful than ever. The present study hypothesizes that, based on the tradition “Whoever practices medicine must fear God, act benevolently, and strive diligently”, the three elements of piety, benevolence, and diligent effort constitute essential ethical responsibilities for physicians and offer a comprehensive framework for medicine grounded in Islamic values. The integration of piety, sincere counsel, and scholarly endeavor can address many ethical challenges of modern medical practice. Employing a descriptive–analytical method, this research seeks to identify and systematize the characteristics of the ideal physician in accordance with religious teachings. The findings indicate that a physician’s personal and practical piety-particularly adherence to religious boundaries in interactions with the opposite gender and precision during medical examinations-forms a fundamental pillar of Islamic medical practice. Furthermore, professional commitment requires physicians to exercise utmost care in accurate diagnosis. In addition, continuous scholarly effort and scientific dynamism, manifested in ongoing acquisition of new knowledge and skills, are indispensable for enabling committed physicians to keep pace with the rapid developments of the scientific community. |
